Have some fun and take the AgilQuest Challenge. Here it is….
- Walk around your office area and count out 50 assigned workspaces.
- Count how many are actually occupied and how many are empty.
- Do this a couple of times on different days and at different times, but use the same 50 spaces.
If we’re right, you have an opportunity to save a lot of money.
If we’re wrong, we won’t be far off – and you still could save some money.
So, where is everybody? They’re working away from their assigned workspace. They’re working at home, visiting clients, collaborating on projects, or doing business in other locations. They’re on vacation, out sick or attending conferences or training sessions. Meanwhile, you`re paying for their workspace as if they occupied it 100 percent of the time!
Cell phones, laptops and broadband wireless communications have given your workers the flexibility they need to be productive whenever and wherever they need to work. As a result, they’re working out of the office more…. And the utilization of assigned workspaces in many offices dips below 50 percent.
It`s a fact: As the use of technology goes up, the utilization of workspace goes down.
Most senior real estate and facility managers know this. However, their problem is identifying which spaces are the ones that are actually underutilized.
This presents managers with an incredible challenge and an exciting opportunity: How can they identify the workspaces that ought to be shared or eliminated?
That`s where AgilQuest comes in. We`ll provide you with systems to monitor utilization of every workspace in the building on a daily basis. This raw data will allow you to compare the amount of time each space was used to the amount of time it was available. The ratio defines the utilization.
Here’s how you can act on that information:
- Produce a report showing each workspace, sorted in ascending utilization order – displaying all your underutilized workspaces at the top of the report.
- If you have a space management system that can color-code floor plan drawings, produce a drawing that uses color to show the location of all under-utilized workspaces.
- Now you have reports and drawings showing how much space is underutilized, which space is underutilized, and where that space is located.
- Armed with that information, you can now make recommendations on how to share underutilized space, consolidate real estate, divest left over space, and save millions in real estate costs.
